The Community Centre at 2 Grant Street comprises the Hub and the Cottage. The Cottage is the house-style building on the corner with rooms for small meetings of up to a dozen people. The Hub is the larger warehouse-style building with capacity for up to 50 people to meet and hold events.
Most activities for our clients start here in the Hub! They range from something as homely as yarning circles, or morning teas, through to events such as mens groups and womens groups. Also, we hold events for training and education, sometimes using the big screen for video, Teams speakers, or presentations from Youtube or SBS. Then too, it an be set up for playtime!
After we renovated the centre, we have, during 2022, opened it 5 days a week, and our peer support workers are based at the centre. So clients can come here Monday to Friday, for a cuppa and a chat to their support worker, when they need it.
We are also putting on events during the week, such as mens groups, womens groups, yarning circles, training courses, and in the next year we are adding arts, crafts and painting mornings. At times we put on a morning tea, or lunch, and have had up to 35 people attending these. They give us chance to tell everyone about upcoming events.
This is good for our clients who, instead of being stuck at home, can come in, get a welcome, socialize with other community members and join in activities.
