Welcome to Keedac, whose full name is the Kaata-Koorliny Employment & Enterprise Development Aboriginal Corporation. We are based in the Wheatbelt, south of Perth, Western Australia, servicing the Narrogin and Northam regional and remote areas.
Keedac is an Aboriginal not-for-profit organisation based in Narrogin with an office in Northam. Mainly, we care for Aboriginal people in our community who have been referred to us for any one of a number of reasons, with the aim of helping them to improve their health and their life.
Over the past four years to 2023, Keedac has lifted its standards and aims to be a best-practice service provider. We have worked to achieve this by:
- Training programs provided through Australian Institute of Management (AIMWA), funded by Lotterywest, including:
- Annual Board training with the Foundations of Governance program by AIMWA
- Cert IV Leadership & Management course attended by our CEO Leanne Kickett
- Assisting staff to get relevant qualifications, with Clontarf College, and TAFE, through:
- Cert IV Mental Health
- Certs II and III Community Support
- Measurable outcomes through KPIs and client feedback, based on person-centred and evidence-based client intervention, support and lifestyle training
- Program support for the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) of clients including mental health, intensive family support, family and mother care and guidance, support to public housing tenants and lifestyle improvement programs
- A twofold approach for clients:
- Support for clients with existing problems of mental health, substance abuse and relationship issues, to address and minimize those issues, and
- Providing positive activities, yarning circles and community support to encourage the development of positive lifestyles that prevent such issues arising in the first place
- The new Aboriginal Community Centre was opened 5 days a week in 2022 where, in addition to support from care workers, clients can join in positive activities such as crafts and social activities, attend talks from visiting speakers from other services, learn how to better engage with the community in a positive manner
